Elora Esce – Photographer – Our first Featured Artist on amazingwestfieldny.com

I was first introduced to Elora’s work while viewing a recent show at the Patterson Library’s Octagon Gallery. She was one of six photographers showcasing some of their work. As a photographer I’m always looking for great images and the minute I saw Elora’s images you could tell she knew what she was doing technically as well as having an eye for composition and detail. The print quality and the way the images stood out just said quality in every respect. If you haven’t guessed I’m a fan.
We are honored to have Elora as the first Featured Artist and hope she will provide us with new images to view in the future.
Below is more information about Elora:

Elora graduated from SUNY Fredonia in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science. Elora has an intense passion for the outdoors and finds joy hiking during all seasons. Elora is a member of the North Shore Arts Alliance and has an upcoming show at the Patterson Library Octagon Gallery scheduled for this May.

Description of Work:
“I find inspiration by collecting plants, insects, and skulls that I find during my hiking sessions. I mainly use my digital SLR camera and/or a scanner to create each piece.
The following is an exert from the Hair Series artist statement:
“I started to think about what exactly defines how other people perceive me. Throughout my life my hair has greatly affected who I am. Hair, however, is superficial and I wanted to find a way to bring a superficial thing like appearance to a deeper level. Also I wanted to think about how my physical appearance has affected my personality and how I feel about myself. Each image is composed of three elements; hair, plants and insects. These concepts are combined into one image and meant to be an extension of my inner self. The hair describes my physical self while the plants describe my love for the natural world. The insects interact with both the hair and plant elements to signify how our physical and emotional selves can produce personality. These images are meant to be small snapshots into my imagination, as if you were to peer into the night with a spot light. The beings depicted here are in constant motion, until the spotlight falls upon them and they are frozen in time.”
